Blizzard Entertainment announces the creation of a new license

The new license from Blizzard Entertainment is set to be the first collaboration with Microsoft since the Activision acquisition of Blizzard was formalized by 2023.

Without warning, the American studio Blizzard Entertainment presents its new project: “We are moving towards a completely new universe that will house a unique survival game on PC and consoles. A place filled with heroes to imagine, stories to write and adventures to shape. A vast kingdom full of possibilities. But all stories need storytellers, all worlds need builders. What if it were you? For thirty years we have been creating worlds for millions of players around the world, but for this we need a diverse team of developers who will bring their fantasies to life. This is our mission.”

Blizzard Entertainment is currently looking for an Environment Artist (Assistant or Senior), Senior Character Artist, Technical Artist (FX Pipeline), VFX Artist (Assistant or Senior), Senior Character Concept Artist, Associate Level Designer, Designer, and also lead software engineer (engine) and three senior software engineers (audio, server, instruments).

The Future of Blizzard Entertainment

Mike Ybarra, Director of Blizzard Entertainment, on the future of Blizzard Entertainment: “2021 has been a tough year for all of us. As individuals, we strive to treat everyone around us with due respect and dignity. As professionals, we attach great importance to our activities and want to work in the most favorable and healthy environment. Our main goal, today and tomorrow, is to restore your trust in Blizzard. The creativity and dedication shown by the Blizzard teams during this difficult period (in addition to the current health crisis) has been a great source of personal motivation.

Solving these challenges, revisiting our development processes, engaging in introspection and thinking about how we can change the way we think shows incredible strength and commitment to each other, our work and our players. Reading the forums, social media posts and emails from people inside and outside of Blizzard who have spoken out to stand up for what is right and guide us have also resonated with me. I want you to know that we heard you and are determined to change.”

He also spoke about steps taken to restore trust with Blizzard Entertainment employees and players: “These measures are just the beginning of the work that lies ahead for us at Blizzard. I am motivated and inspired by the idea to dedicate myself fully to creating the best conditions for our teams and making their wishes come true. We also know that we need to provide content to our players on a more regular basis and innovate both our existing games and others.”

  • The effectiveness of our leadership and management teams will be measured by progress in ethics. This means that their success and compensation (like mine) will depend directly on our ability to create a safe, inclusive and creative work environment.
  • We are committed to creating more staff positions and devoting more resources to improving our code of conduct. Too often, this important work falls to work teams whose members already have full-time jobs.
  • We have tripled the size of our compliance and investigation teams and have clearly defined responsibilities for inappropriate behavior. This applies to all Blizzard employees, including leadership and management.
  • We shared the data with our teams to improve representation within the company.
  • We have a feedback program in place to enable employees to confidently assess their leadership and we will use it to measure the quality and effectiveness of our managers.
