CD Projekt RED not for sale

CD Projekt RED not for sale

Adam Kiczynski issues a warning to potential CD Projekt RED acquisition candidates.

In an awkward position after the failures of Cyberpunk 2077, the loss of fan confidence, various internal problems or even its databases being hacked, the Polish studio CD Projekt RED is often seen as an easy target for a potential takeover, in particular due to the recent disappointing financial report, and inevitably the name of Microsoft often comes back on social media. An opportunity that president and co-founder Adam Kiczynski dismisses outright: “We’ve said for years that we want to remain independent and don’t intend to be part of a larger enterprise. We are also not looking for a strategic investor. There are measures that make hostile takeovers much more difficult, and they are applied in our society. ”

In addition to closing the door on any takeover attempts, CD Projekt RED is still aiming to become Rockstar Games (Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption) in Poland, and thus will continue to involve new subsidiaries created by around the world: “We do not rule out further acquisitions in the future. The goal is to strengthen our development teams and get additional support for the development of our various projects. With this type of investment, we are interested in experience and competence and we attach great importance to the integration of a dedicated team that can adapt to our group culture. ”

Cyberpunk 2077, update time soon?

A third of the CD Projekt RED teams are working tirelessly on updates and a next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077. Obviously, the goal is to restart, as it should, this video game adaptation of Mike Pondsmith’s famous RPG. If the path is still (very) long, Adam Kiczynski believes in it and wishes for success like The Witcher 3: “We think that in the long run Cyberpunk 2077 will be perceived as a very good game and, like our other games, will continue to sell. for years to come, especially as the hardware gets more powerful over time and we improve the game. It gave us momentum and motivated us to make changes that will make us better in the future. “
