ChatGPT went down briefly after a bug exposing user chat histories
OpenAI had to turn off ChatGPT for about ten hours: the history displayed the titles of other users’ conversations.
A few hours ago, ChatGPT was taken offline and unavailable for a short time after users discovered they could access other users’ chat history headers. People have been posting screenshots of their ChatGPT interface on social networks like Reddit and Twitter, showing sidebars filled with chats they don’t think belong to them.
OpenAI had to disable ChatGPT for about ten hours
While users could only see the headlines and not the full conversations of these other users, this incident further highlights the need to be very careful when sharing details with this chatbot, as mind-blowing as it is.
An OpenAI spokesperson told Bloomberg that the company temporarily disabled ChatGPT after becoming aware of the reports. The cause of the problem appears to be a bug in open source software that the company is using but not explicitly stating, but OpenAI is still investigating what exactly caused the bug.
History showed conversation titles from other users
According to an incident report posted by the company, ChatGPT remained disabled for approximately ten hours, the time it takes to fix the problem and deploy a fix. However, at the time of this writing, the chat history is still not available. OpenAI has posted a note explaining that it is “working to restore this functionality as quickly as possible.”The company did not provide a date estimate for this. Therefore, you will have to be patient if you often use the history of your discussions with this conversational robot, which has not ceased to amaze for several months.
