CoolStar Shares Another Cheyote iOS 15.0-15.1.1 Jailbreak Tool Status Update
The Odyssey team is hard at work creating a functional jailbreak tool for iOS and iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1, a project the team is now calling Cheyote. The tool has been in development for quite some time and the lead developer of the CoolStar project has updated the status regularly.
In the latest update posted on the Sileo/Taurine/Odyssey Discord channel this week and shown above, CoolStar posted an updated checklist that outlines what has been completed in the tool development process and what still needs to be done.
As far as we can tell, at least two additional milestones that were not included in the previous checklist have been added and marked as completed. These include:
- Verify that changing the root user password still works
- Cheyote recovery improvements
Currently, items that were marked as incomplete in the previous checklist remain blank, including:
- Hook attachment
- Fixed userspace reload bug so manual intervention is not required.
- Verify that settings injection works correctly in apps installed in the App Store.
- Smoothing out other known bugs in critical functions, such as enabling system services after a userspace reload.
As the jailbreak develops, we will likely see more updates to the checklist, which includes adding more items to the list as needed.
At the time of this writing, the ETA is not yet set in stone, but the increase in teasers and positive status updates for the Odyssey team indicate that it will certainly happen for the foreseeable future.
For now, would-be jailbreakers who are looking forward to using the Cheyote jailbreak tool on iOS and iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1 should familiarize themselves with the ins and outs of the upcoming jailbreak as it will be non-root. In a detailed FAQ post, we describe what this means for you as a jailbreaker.
