CoolStar pushes the idea of releasing a “limited” version of Cheyote without jailbreak tweaks ahead of full release
A new comment posted Wednesday morning on the Sileo & Odyssey Team Discord channel from Odyssey lead developer Team CoolStar supported the idea of initially releasing a limited version of the Cheyote jailbreak for iOS and iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1 to the final version.
CoolStar’s post gave us an idea of what a limited version of Cheyote might look like, and from what we can gather, it will include things like SSH functionality, the ability to view Sileo, and support for Cheyote’s proprietary jailbreak recovery features.
This “limited”initial release would noticeably lack support for jailbreak tweaks, which isn’t surprising given that this is the main hurdle preventing Cheyote from being fully ready for the general public. This is because the libhooker and jailbreak settings need to be updated to support iOS and iPadOS 15 as well as rootless dynamics.
According to CoolStar, many waiting for the Cheyote jailbreak suggested that this dual release could be useful. A limited release may be available until libhooker is refactored and a jailbreak tweak is developed to catch up with iOS and iPadOS 15.
Obviously, a full Cheyote jailbreak for iOS and iPadOS 15.0-15.1.2 with support for the jailbreak tweak will be released later. This, however, is not associated with any attached ETA as efforts are ongoing to ensure the jailbreak setting is compatible with iOS and iPadOS 15.
While CoolStar has stated that a “limited”initial release of the jailbreak will be possible, and what’s more, it could be released much sooner than the full jailbreak, phones with the A15, including the iPhone 13 line, seem to be somewhat buggy at the moment.
While it remains to be seen if CoolStar will move forward with a “limited”release ahead of a full release, the good news is that it could give developers a chance to jailbreak iOS and iPadOS 15 before playing. This could benefit jailbreakers in general in the long run..
