God of War Ragnarok release date may be delayed

One of the most anticipated games of the year, Santa Monica Studios’ God of War Ragnarok may have been delayed yet again. The game was originally scheduled to release in 2021, but was pushed back to 2022 due to numerous development complications, including an injury to actor Christopher Judge (Kratos).

According to Gamereactor, the release of God of War Ragnarok has been pushed back to 2023. This is based on European Gamereactor sources. The report suggests that PlayStation will make an announcement later this summer along with the announcement of a rumored The Last of Us remake.

This is also confirmed by PlayStation Game Size, which reveals that the placeholder date for the game in the PSN server database has been updated to reflect the December (replacement) release.

PlayStation Game Size monitors the PSN backend to show release windows and game download sizes. GOW: Ragnarok used to have a stub release date for September, but now it seems the date has been updated to December. Whether that means the game actually comes out this year or next is entirely up to speculation.

The game was first revealed at the PlayStation 5 Reveal Event with a release window in 2021, which caught almost everyone in the community by surprise. Simply because the release of the game happened to be much closer to the release of its 2018 predecessor than fans might have expected.

God of War Ragnarok is one of the biggest exclusives for SIE, so it seems only natural that they will wait with the game for as long as possible. Santa Monica Studios has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the studio is still capable of delivering generation-defining hits, as evidenced by the success of the 2018 God of War PS4 as well as the PC launch.
