Discord will better manage the rollout of its features between iOS and Android.

Discord is announcing big changes to its Android app. This should allow new features to be released at the same time as iOS and desktop.

Discord has begun rolling out an updated Android app that should address one of the most common user complaints. If you follow the company and the app, you may have noticed more than once that the latter often announces such and such a new feature for iOS and desktop before it is available on the Google operating system. We saw this recently with the launch of server profiles. According to Discord, all this will soon be a thing of the past.

Discord announces big changes to its Android app

In a recently published blog post, the company explains that it recently rewrote its Android app using React Native. Discord has been using this platform for iOS development since Meta made React open source in 2015. Now that both Discord mobile apps are built on the same codebase, the company says that Android users will be entitled to more consistency in functionality outputs.

In addition, the company explains that Discord users will have a more consistent experience across platforms. For example, an Android app will offer a larger default font, which is more in line with the iOS version of the software. Discord is also announcing that it will be able to release its updates faster.

This should allow new features to be released at the same time as iOS and desktop.

“As Discord continues to grow across platforms, we want to find ways to help you and the communities as quickly and efficiently as possible, no matter what device or platform you use,” the company explains. “Using React Native on all mobile platforms supported by Discord is just one of the many tools that help us help you. And we can’t wait to show you how to do it.”

If you already have the Discord app installed on your Android smartphone, the company explains that the new version will arrive on your device in the coming weeks. New Android users can download the app directly from the Google Play store.
