Hey Notch! iPhone SE 4 could get a major display upgrade

According to Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst Ross Young on Twitter, Apple will be using a larger notched screen for its fourth generation iPhone SE.

The analyst isn’t entirely sure if this means the next iPhone SE 4 could introduce Face ID support for the first time (he didn’t say if the notch on the phone’s updated display will house a TrueDepth camera for Face ID).

Since the iPhone SE is Apple’s most affordable iPhone, Apple engineers may be forced to ditch Face ID to keep costs down.

But if Yang is right about the full-screen design, they won’t be Touch ID Home buttons either. What the company could do is embed Touch ID into the phone’s side button, something that was previously rumored by trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and other sources. If Yang is right, then all future Apple smartphones in 2023 will use a full-screen design. As noted by MacRumors, other sources have indicated that the next iPhone SE may have a design reminiscent of the iPhone‌ XR, which uses a 6.1-inch LCD.

How about an iPhone SE with Dynamic Island?

In other words, the next iPhone SE can take on a full-screen view without having to enlarge it in your hand. Mind you, Yang previously suggested that Apple might port Dynamic Island from the iPhone 14 Pro to the next iPhone SE, but we don’t know why he changed his mind.

We have no doubt that the Dynamic Island feature will roll out to all iPhone models in the future, including non-professional ones – the only exception is the iPhone SE, which we expect to use the same notch design as previous iPhones.

Full screen iPhone in 2023

Considering the last two iPhone SE models featured smaller 4.7-inch screens, the 6.1-inch version should be a refreshing change for anyone, whether they suffer from poor eyesight or have large hands.

The original iPhone SE was released in 2016, followed by second and third generation models in 2020 and 2022, respectively. Rumors agree that the fourth generation model should be released next year, and Apple may introduce and release the iPhone SE 4 in the spring of 2023.
