Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, development is no longer in alpha phase

BioWare announces the end of the alpha development phase of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

A few months after the official start of production, Gary McKay, CEO of BioWare, announces the end of the alpha phase of the fourth part of the Dragon Age license:

If the game is clearly not finished yet, the alpha phase is one of the most important in game development for several reasons. First, we can now work on the aesthetic realism of the final form and the restoration of game performance. Now the big question is, “Where should we focus our efforts?”To answer this question, we’re drawing on feedback from a variety of sources, including Community Council members who each have their own experiences and perspectives, our Quality Review team, and the results of our extensive internal testing. Gathering feedback from different sources gives us a better idea of how much time and energy should be invested in improving the experience. Moreover,

The Dragon Age team is incredibly excited to announce a big step forward in #Dreadwolf development. https://t.co/CsRaBniELu pic.twitter.com/aMY85y7ErK

Now that Episode Dreadwolf is out of alpha, BioWare can get down to business:

Starting with the story as we wrote it, we explore whether the way it’s presented with the characters, dialogue, cutscenes, and game progression meets our expectations. Now that we have the opportunity to play the full game, we can rehearse and polish the moments that our community appreciates the most. The start of this alpha phase for the whole team was the culmination of a lot of effort, and we will use this new level to celebrate this event together. So we organized a small hybrid party with people “in-person”and others “virtual”during which the team was able to present their work to the entire BioWare staff. We even took the time to organize a little virtual escape, during which we had to help someone find a way out through the camera together. We had a great time,

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is now playable…inside

Gary McKay confirms that BioWare’s new Dragon Age is playable from the opening scenes of the first mission to the very end, as well as being seen and heard. All this forms a cohesive experience:

After spending several hours fully learning the game, I admit that I have a soft spot for characters. Whether it’s followers, allies or enemies, their integration into the game is in keeping with Dragon Age’s DNA, character-driven storylines around a concept that still climbs a notch. Characters help us contextualize the game world and stakes, and I look forward to discussing them in more detail. It’s a real pleasure to finally introduce to our fans parts of the world that we’ve only glimpsed but never fully explored, such as Minrathia, the capital of the “Tevinter Empire”. We’ve already talked about Minrathia in previous games. Well, now you can finally visit it! The identity of this magically built city has a rather spectacular visual identity compared to the cities already seen in Dragon Age. As I mentioned earlier, reaching the alpha stage is extremely important for us, but there is still work to be done.
