iOS 15.x Jailbreak Based on Palara1n checkm8 Developer Targeted Now Supports Various iPads
If you’ve been following us this week, you’ve no doubt heard about the new developer-focused palera1n jailbreak for iOS and iPadOS 15.0-15.7, which is based on the same checkm8 bootrom exploit that made the checkra1n jailbreak famous.
After pushing customization support for all iPhones, including the iPhone X, gained momentum early Tuesday morning, project lead developer @itsnebulalol revealed on Twitter late in the evening that Palera1n has added support for the following iPads:
- ipad 5
- ipad 6
- ipad 7
- iPad Air 2
While the jailbreak technically supports iOS and iPadOS 15.7 on supported devices, it’s worth noting that the included injection of the Substitute tweak only supports iOS and iPadOS 15.3.1 inclusive. This means that anyone jailbreaking more recent firmware will not have the luxury of installing jailbreak tweaks currently on the GitHub compatibility list.
The palera1n jailbreak is for developers only, but tech-savvy jailbreakers can also take advantage of it. While Palera1n’s main caveat is that it’s a tethered jailbreak that requires you to connect to your computer after every reboot, @itsnebulalol says the jailbreak itself is stable.
Given how Palera1n uses the checkm8 exploit, it only works on older devices with A9-A11 chips running iOS 15.0-15.7, from iPhone 6s to iPhone X. A10 and A11 devices will not have access to the password or biometric authentication for personal data. security if they jailbreak with palera1n.
Palera1n is not a rootless jailbreak as planned by Odyssey Team’s upcoming Cheyote jailbreak, however Cheyote will support newer devices.
