PoomSmart’s YouTube X and YTUnShorts jailbreak tweaks will update your YouTube app
iOS developer PoomSmart is back again this week with a couple more jailbreak tweaks to improve YouTube apps called YouTube X and YTUnShorts.
For YouTube users with jailbroken iPhones or iPads, these settings will be a godsend.
The first, dubbed YouTube X, improves the app by removing ads and activating the background playback feature. The second one, YTUnShorts, removes the flurry of shorts you usually see in your YouTube app’s feed.
While the ad-supported model isn’t necessarily bad, I’m annoyed by the consistent bombardment of ads before, during, and between videos. If there ever was a perfect example of double dipping, it certainly is in this app, and YouTube X offers some sanctuary.
Also worth noting is background playback, which allows playback to continue even when you exit the YouTube app. It’s perfect for background audio so you can listen to something while you’re doing something else on your iPhone or iPad.
Apart from YouTube X, the YTUnShorts setting is another handy addition. The Shorts feature was experimental for a long time, but quickly took over the YouTube feed. For people who use YouTube solely as a platform for watching videos, these short videos feel like more clutter than content, and this tweak removes them completely.
The YouTube X and YTUnShorts jailbreak tweaks are available for free in the personal PoomSmart repository through your favorite package management app and support jailbroken phones with the latest version of the YouTube app. Both tweaks are also open source on the PoomSmart GitHub page.
Those who are not yet using the PoomSmart personal repository can add it to their package manager app using the URL we have provided below:
