These surgical robots can work without human assistance
The STAR system is a surgical robot capable of operating without human assistance. Extremely promising.
Robots can perform all kinds of missions. Someone will say that some are very dangerous, others are much louder. However, ultimately, the only limit is the imagination of their designers. They have already proven themselves, in particular in the field of medicine, sometimes helping surgeons with complex operations. This robot, on the other hand, can operate without any human assistance.
STAR System – Robotic Surgeon
The use of robots for surgical operations is not new. We have already heard about doctors using robots in their work. What if one day robot surgeons start operating on their patients without the help of a doctor? This is the goal that researchers at Johns Hopkins University are trying to achieve.
Scientists have developed a system called STAR for an autonomous Smart Tissue robot. In one of its tests, a robot was able to perform a complex surgical operation on a pig without any human assistance, and it turned out that the machine did a better job than a human.

The operation in question was an anastomosis of the small intestine. This includes reconnecting the ends of the intestine in case it had to be cut, for example to treat a tumor. And what is very difficult with this kind of operation is that the slightest mistake, no matter how small, can lead to leaks. And since it is a soft tissue, the consequences can be immediate and the damage can be very significant.
It was found that when using the STAR system on four pigs, the robot can perform more accurate and reliable seams and stitches. No leaks found. However, it will be a very long time before we see the STAR system being used in humans, but it looks very promising. In the relatively near future, we could well be controlled by robots.
