Facebook wants you to post videos from third-party apps
Facebook is adding a “Reels button”to allow third-party apps to post content directly to Reels.
Facebook is taking the next step to encourage users to create original content for their TikTok clone. Menlo Park recently introduced a new Share to Reels feature that allows third-party app users to post directly to Facebook Reels.
Facebook is adding a “Reels”button.
The update allows third-party developers to add a “Reels button”to their app so that their users can post their clips directly to Reels while still using Reels’ editing tools. This is reported by Facebook in his blog. One of the first developers to take advantage of this was Smule, which offers a very popular karaoke app, as well as video editing apps Vita and VivaVideo.

This initiative is another sign of the growing importance of Reels in Facebook and how the latter is trying to borrow this thing, as it did with its Stories. Facebook has continued to push Reels forward, integrating it across its services in recent months, as it already did with its Stories when the American giant considered Snapchat its biggest competitor. Today, with Facebook losing users to TikTok, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg continues to tout Reels’ success. He said this fall that Reels will be “as important to our products as Stories”and that the refocusing of his service to appeal to younger users has now become the company’s “northern star”.
That being said, convincing users to post original content, and not just copies of TikTok clips, is no small feat for Facebook. Instagram, which has had Reels for quite some time, said a year ago that it was going to stop promoting watermarked videos from other apps, but the service is still full of recycled TikTok videos, so to speak. Adding a “Reels button”to other content creation apps won’t fix this issue instantly, but it can certainly help.
