Facebook Messenger now warns if a screenshot of an ephemeral message is taken.
The idea behind features like Snapchat’s ephemeral messages or Facebook Messenger’s disappearance mode is to leave no “physical”trace, so to speak, that such and such a conversation actually took place. At the same time, nothing prevents one of the participants from taking a screenshot, for example, for later. And in these cases, there is not much to do.

Indeed, if it is obvious that you cannot prevent someone from taking a screenshot, you can tell the other person that the screenshot was taken. And if you use Facebook Messenger, you might be interested to know that in the latest app update, if a short message screenshot is taken, a message and a notification will be sent to you.

In any case, that’s exactly what Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post discussing some of the changes coming to Messenger. In his own words, “new update for end-to-end encrypted Messenger chats: you’ll get a notification if someone takes a screenshot of an ephemeral message. We will also add GIFs, stickers, and reactions to encrypted chats.”
This screenshot notification is just one of the many changes Meta has made to its Messenger app. The platform, in particular, announced that end-to-end encryption for group chats and calls is now available to everyone. This follows a test run during 2021. and according to several announcements from various executives in charge of the platform, a number of other changes and improvements should be expected in the coming months, in particular to further preserve user privacy.
