Facebook to remove political and religious information from profiles
Facebook has decided to remove some very personal data from profile pages. A good thing for users.
Social networks know almost everything about you. Because they learn from what you post there, of course, but also because you provide or have provided them with a lot of very personal information. For example, on Facebook, you may have indicated your political and/or religious orientation. However, the network will soon hide this profile information.
Facebook will no longer display your sexual, political or religious orientation on your profile.
There will be less information about you on your Facebook profile page in the coming weeks. After initially discovering the thing by consultant Matt Navarra, the Meta confirmed that it would be removing addresses, mentions of “interested”(which should be understood as sexual orientation), political orientation, and religion from Facebook profiles starting Dec. 1. The initiative aims to make Facebook “easier to navigate and use,”a spokesperson told TechCrunch. If you provided some or all of this information, you will be notified of the change.
from next December 1
Other details you may have provided, such as your contact information or couple status, will remain in place. You can upload a copy of your Facebook data before December 1st if you absolutely want to keep it, and you’ll still be in control of who can see the remaining content on your profile.
This decision will have no practical impact on the use of the web itself, other than reducing scrolling in the “contacts and basic information”section, but may reflect a change in attitudes towards privacy. Facebook included these sections at the very beginning of the social network, when users were more inclined to share very personal data. Privacy and confidentiality are the keywords today, and in recent years, Meta has taken a strong interest in the topic, with a focus on private messaging and improved security. People are likely to be less willing to share their profile information at a time when online harassment and espionage are rampant.
