Final Fantasy 7: New 25th Anniversary Projects

The iconic role-playing universe and history of Square Enix will be updated with new games.

Yoshinori Kitase and Tetsuya Nomura celebrated the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy 7 (first released on PS1 on January 31, 1997 in Japan) by thanking players worldwide and discussing the future of the license. Suffice it to say that history, from an eschatological point of view, is far from over. In addition to several brand new projects, the second part of the FF7 remake should be shown in the first trailer in the coming months. Probably during a special event from Square Enix or a possible PlayStation Showcase/PlayStation Experience from Sony.

“Final Fantasy 7 is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. It also marks the 35th anniversary of the Final Fantasy series itself, meaning that Final Fantasy 7 was born in the 10th year of this 35-year history. Personally, I’ve always considered Final Fantasy 7 to be a recent game, but now it’s part of the games in the early series,” says Yoshinori Kitase, FF7 director and FF7 Remake producer.

“Despite that, we were honored last year when gamers voted it the third most played game of all time in a TV poll in Japan. If we’ve been able to achieve this, it’s thanks to all the support we’ve received from our fans over the years. Thank you very much. Final Fantasy 7 Remade is coming as the latest game in the series, alongside titles like FF7 Remake and FF7 The First Soldier, and you can look forward to even more exciting releases in the future.”

Tetsuya Nomura, FF7 Character Designer and FF7 Remake Creative Director, adds, “Final Fantasy 7 is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and the game has been around for a quarter of a century. Free-to-play Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis will be released later this year on iOS and Android. The latter takes place 30 years before the events of the main game and features the founding members of SOLDIER, the elite fighting force of the electric power company Shinra.
