Android 13 wallpaper dimming feature spotted in codes; Here’s How It Works

Google will give us a detailed overview of all the features that will arrive in Android 13 in almost 24 hours. However, as in previous years, the beta is already out and has already revealed some features. The last thing 9to5 Google found was the wallpaper dimming feature. This was seen by the site in the APK code. While this feature was talked about back in March as part of Android 13, this time the feature has been detailed with some new information and how it will work on your Android smartphones.

Android 13 wallpaper dimming feature: how it might work

As the name suggests, a new Android 13 feature dims the phone’s wallpaper by lowering the brightness level. It will end up being easy on your eyes when you look at the screen at night. As stated in the codes, this wallpaper dimming feature will be optional and will not be required in sleep mode in Digital Wellbeing settings. While it is not known how much this feature will darken the wallpaper, it is expected to reach 50% and even 25% depending on how dark it is around the phone. It is worth adding that only the background wallpaper will be dimmed, and not the icons, the search bar and other elements. The 100% dim version essentially has a black background.

It’s also not clear if the feature will slowly fade to a user-set dimming level, or if it will be dimmed for a specific event. However, this feature will come in addition to other digital wellbeing features like Do Not Disturb mode, turning off the phone’s always-on display, and more.

We expect Google to elaborate on this Android 13 feature at the IO 2022 Developer Conference. It will also detail other features including the photo picker, quick settings tile, advanced stuff you’ve developed, installing an app in a guest profile, a new quick settings tile and more.

Google IO will take place on the Google campus and will be streamed live on YouTube on May 12 at 00:30 EST.
