Gameloft opens studio in Paris to develop games for consoles and PC

Historically focused on mobile games, Vivendi’s French group Gameloft is now interested in new platforms.

Although headquartered in the capital since its inception in 1999, Gameloft has so far operated 17 studios located in America, Europe, Asia and Australia. But now everything will change with the appearance of the eighteenth organization in Paris. The first creation, made up of young talent and veterans of the video game industry, will enrich the Gameloft catalog by offering an action and sports experience in multiplayer and cross-platform play on PC and consoles. By the end of the year, the team will grow very quickly and will recruit about thirty people.

“We are an international and multicultural company, but with roots in France,” says Stéphane Roussel, CEO of Gameloft. “We are therefore delighted to be able to contribute to the development of this thriving industry in a very attractive French market and offer new opportunities to many talents through the opening of this studio in the heart of Paris.” Julien Billard, Gameloft Paris studio manager, adds: “I am very proud to lead the first Gameloft studio in Paris. The Paris region is rich in talent, whether they are starting their careers or are seasoned professionals, and it is in this logic of incubation, supported by the group’s experience, that we believe we can make a difference. Our game in development will be the expression of these ambitions and will meet the expectations of players in the genre, underrepresented in France. ”

Gameloft’s financial health restored

In 2021, Gameloft’s revenue increased by 4.5% year-on-year to €265 million. This is the highest level since 2018. And profitability is again in positive territory: adjusted operating income was 8 million against -24 million a year earlier. In addition to commercial agreements with Apple and Netflix for video game services, Gameloft is gearing up to launch Disney’s Speedstorm racing game and Disney’s Dreamlight Valley life sim later this year. These two games are planned for consoles and PC.
