Harry Potter: to new adaptations with the consent of JK Rowling

Warner Bros. Discovery wants to make new films in the Harry Potter universe.

During a recent conference call with investors, Warner Bros. Discovery David Zaslav said he wants to consider making more Harry Potter films:

We will focus on our franchises. We haven’t made a Superman movie in 13 years. We haven’t filmed Harry Potter in 15 years. DC films and Harry Potter films have generated the majority of Warner Bros.’s profits. over the past 25 years. If we can do something with JK Rowling in relation to Harry Potter in the future, we will try to do it.

Warner Bros. produced eight Harry Potter films between 2001 and 2011 that grossed $7.7 billion worldwide. In partnership with J.K. Rowling, the American production company created the Fantastic Beasts franchise, which continues to decline at the box office. The latest installment of Fantastic Beasts: The Dumbledore Secrets came out last April and grossed $405.1 million worldwide. It’s not yet clear if Warner Bros. explore two films that are scheduled to be completed as part of their five-episode arc.

JK Rowling’s descent into hell before redemption?

In the years since the release of the various Harry Potter films, JK Rowling has become a controversial figure and has been accused of being transphobic. David Zaslav’s willingness to open up to JK Rowling came after fans interpreted the incidents as signs of tension between Warner Bros and the author, which both sides deny. She did not appear in the recent HBO reunion special (she later said she was invited but declined).
