Gearbox strengthens with acquisition of Lost Boys Interactive
The acquisition of Lost Boys Interactive will add more than 220 developers to Gearbox Entertainment, bringing the total headcount of parent company Gearbox Entertainment to approximately 1,300.
A few months after reorganizing the management of its studios, Gearbox brought their partner Lost Boys Interactive back to Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 2017 with offices in Madison, Wisconsin and Austin, Texas, the American studio works on both co-development of first-class games and original intellectual property for consoles and PC.
“Lost Boys is an incredible studio with industry-leading talent that continues to raise the bar for gamers’ expectations of their favorite franchises,”said Randy Pitchford, founder and president of Gearbox Entertainment. “ I can’t wait for Chase, Rod, Sean, Mark and my old friend Tim and all the amazing Lost Boys developers to have an immediate and positive impact on the games secretly developed at Gearbox Software. I also look forward to this amazing team being able to provide world-class development services to various partners and allies in the gaming industry.” Sean Nivens, CEO and co-founder of Lost Boys Interactive, adds: “We founded our beloved studio with the dream of working on products that will be recognized and loved around the world. We are incredibly excited to be joining Gearbox and continue to do what we do best, which is making amazing games that entertain and inspire others. ”
Lost Boys Interactive, new member of the Gearbox family
With plans to reach 350 members by 2024, Lost Boys Interactive is currently going through a period of rapid expansion. The structure will operate as a subsidiary of Gearbox Entertainment within the Embracer Group and will continue to operate independently within Gearbox Entertainment, working in tandem with the parent organization on complex development projects. Sean Nivens, CEO of Lost Boys, will report to Steve Jones, President of Gearbox Software.
