Spotify’s CEO is still very evasive about the arrival of a HiFi-quality service.
Spotify is still very vague about the arrival of its HiFi offering. The platform is in a very delicate position.
There are many music streaming services on the market today. Various players must find ways to outperform the competition. One of the possibilities is the presence of a large catalog of popular games, the other is the price, as well as the built-in features offered on the platform. In the case of Spotify, the company has long planned to launch a HiFi service, therefore with high sound quality, but it seems that the launch of this proposal has not been decided yet.
Spotify is still very vague about the arrival of its HiFi offering
During the presentation of financial results for the last quarter of 2021, the company’s CEO Daniel Ek told analysts and investors that his team is still not sure about the availability date of this long-awaited HiFi service. In the words of the Spotify boss himself: “Many of the features we talk about today, especially those related to music, are subject to a license. Therefore, I cannot announce anything concrete from this side, except that we are in direct and constant contact with our partners in order to offer it on the market.
The platform is in a very delicate position
That being said, Spotify is currently in a rather delicate position. Indeed, Apple already announced some time ago that its own music streaming service in HiFi quality would be offered to Apple Music subscribers at no additional cost. This is in contrast to Spotify, which has stated that its HiFi offering will come with an add-on for users who would like to take advantage of it.
Therefore, the situation for Spotify is, to put it mildly, difficult. Especially since we remember that Tidal wanted to stand out from the competition by launching a more expensive offering, but with higher quality, and that the operation clearly did not produce the expected results. Therefore, this suggests that if there are indeed some users who are willing to pay for them, they may not necessarily be able to cover the costs of Spotify, even more so when other platforms such as Apple Music already offer this functionality for free.
