Google announces the Pixel Fold

After all the leaks, I suppose the Pixel Fold wasn’t going to come as a surprise to anyone, so why not just announce it? You may sign up for a mailing list for “The first foldable phone designed by Google” on Google’s long-awaited teaser website. The business has just now officially recognized the Fold’s existence.

Even though we’ve already seen leaks of the official renders, one very brief hands-on video, and CAD-based renders, we can still gain some insight from the video. In particular, it is obvious that, like the Pixel 7 Pro, the phone’s sides and camera bar have been polished to a mirror sheen. The camera bar on our Pixel 7 Pro hasn’t held up well over time, and that mirror finish will very quickly show scratches. The cheaper Pixel 7 came with a matte sandblasted aluminum surface, which is both better looking and more robust, as we mentioned in our Pixel 7 Pro review.

Only today are we getting official looks at the phone; I/O is probably when the specifications and price will be made public. According to CNBC rumors, the phone will ship in June for more than $1,700. The Fold is anticipated to come with the standard Google Tensor G2 chip and have a 7.6-inch inside panel and a 5.8-inch external display.

May 10 is Google I/O. Now, there are only a few days left.
