Google wants to offer a more integrated ecosystem like Apple. Mountain View already has a few ideas.

One of the benefits of buying products in the Apple ecosystem is that everything seems to work together just fine. Want to share a document from your iPhone to Mac and vice versa? AirDrop. Want to automatically sync your photos across all your devices? iCloud. Want to copy something on your Mac and paste it on your iPad? This is done without even realizing it. In Google’s rival Android, the situation is completely different, the experience is not as smooth and fluid.

Google’s Android platform, on the other hand, doesn’t really offer a similar experience, but Mountain View is looking to change that. In an announcement made at CES 2022, Google announced its intention to create a more integrated ecosystem around its products and services.

Mountain View already has some ideas

For example, Google’s answer to AirDrop, dubbed Nearby Share, is slowly coming to Windows PCs, allowing Android users to share files very quickly from one device to another. The American giant has also confirmed its intention to bring its Fast Pair feature to Windows to make connecting devices wirelessly as easy as possible, a bit like how AirPods and Apple Watch connect without even thinking about it.

There is no doubt that many Android users will appreciate these and many other features that will make Android – and Windows – the same. It will be interesting to see how it all works together in everyday life settings, whether at work or at home, and whether the experience can match or even be better than what the Apple brand already offers its customers. The work must continue!
