Google is calling the Pixel 6 “the fastest selling pixel ever.”

Google/Alphabet just announced Q1 2022 earnings and the company was once again touting Pixel 6 sales. In the previous quarter, Q4 2021, CEO Sundar Pichai stated that the company set “an all-time quarterly sales record.”Pixel.”The “Pixel”mentioned there technically includes the mid-range Pixel 6 and Pixel 5a. Still, there’s no ambiguity in this latest earnings report: Pichai calls the Pixel 6 “the fastest-selling Pixel ever.”Here are the executive’s full comments about the company’s hardware division:

In terms of hardware, the Pixel 6 is a huge step forward for the Pixel portfolio, and it was great to see the reaction from Pixel users. This is the fastest selling Pixel ever, and we are building consumer awareness of the brand and making significant progress. I am excited about the products we are preparing and look forward to sharing them on Google I/O.

The Pixel 6 stands out among Google’s flagship phones because of how good it is. Previous Pixel flagships have been pretty disappointing, either because they were too expensive like the Pixel 5 or too expensive and full of experimental features that didn’t work like the Pixel 4. The Pixel 6 offers excellent software and Google support for Android. a phone without any major display issues and at a lower price than the competition.

However, being the fastest selling Pixel phone is still a low bar. In the realm of tech news, we talk about Google phones in the same breath as Apple and Samsung devices, but Google is really an advertising company whose tiny hardware division exists as a side hobby. One report from Nikkei Asia said that Google planned to ship “over 7 million”Pixel 6 phones, while flagship iPhone sales could top 100 million units in seven months. Samsung releases 40 different phone models a year, so there isn’t a single model that can serve as a direct comparison, but last yearSamsung shipped 272 million phones and Apple shipped 235 million phones.

Pichai’s Google I/O teaser is likely a nod to the upcoming Pixel 6a, which is expected to be showcased during the May 11 show. Rumors that Google might pack a flagship SoC into a mid-range phone, the 6a could be another sales winner for the company.
