Amazon eyeing the metaverse? The hints are multiplying.
Amazon today is an important company. The American giant is present in many sectors, sometimes distant from trade, which was its main business. And the least we can say is that he is never satisfied. Jeff Bezos’ company continues to diversify: online content distribution with Twitch and Amazon Prime Video, the space race with Blue Origin, and, why not, the metaverse.

Indeed, Bellevue will be working on a virtual reality headset that will directly compete with another tech giant, Meta, with its Oculus/Quest brand. But what exactly should we expect? So far, nothing concrete, or at least official. Internet users recently noticed a vacancy on the Amazon job site for the position of engineer “XR/AR, XR/AR Devices”, more specifically for the position of engineer responsible for the development of augmented reality, virtual and/or augmented/mixed devices.
Hints multiply
Thus, there is no longer any doubt that Amazon wants to enter this industry. From there, to present it in the metaverse race alongside Facebook, Epic Games, Nike, Adidas and many more, there is only one step left. Especially since another ad is looking for a senior technical program manager for a new product, in virtual reality. Additional hint? LinkedIn post from a Senior VR User Experience Researcher. The American giant will seek profiles to “guide the development of a new-to-world XR product, from research prototype to launch.”In other words, Amazon will only be at the beginning of its XR chapter and, who knows, its metaverse chapter.
Meta, Apple, Amazon are all more or less interested in this promising new adventure. While some, like Meta, definitely want to change it, others, like Apple, seem to want to allow it. In which category will Amazon lean? The future will tell us for sure, just as it is known that the American firm will not miss out on this extremely lucrative market.
