Hades is the first video game to win a Hugo Award.
Hades wins the 2021 Hugo award in the video game category, a category that is currently quite ephemeral.
In video games, like a movie for a movie, a book, or even a TV series, too, the right awards are right every year. We could, for example, quote the Game Awards. And each ceremony is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the games released last year, remember what they offered, and even expand your list of games. Hades has not ceased to cause a sensation since its release at the end of 2020. And he still talks about it.
Hades wins the 2021 Hugo Award in the Video Games category
A few months after the official announcement of the finalists, the video game won the Hugo Award for the first time. Gizmodo reports that Supergiant Games’ Hades won the Best Video Game title, outperforming Animal Crossing or The Last of Us: Part II, among others. The Hugo Award is an American literary award created in 1953 and awarded annually to the best works of science fiction and fantasy of the past year.
The game’s creative director Greg Kasavin spoke remotely about receiving the award, saying he was extremely “thankful”to the organizers for recognizing work in the video game industry.
The category is currently very ephemeral
Hades has been available since September 2020, shortly before the Hugo Awards announced the creation of the video game category in November of that year. The game did not appear on PlayStation and Xbox consoles until August 2021, but was once again received very well thanks to sharp roguelike gameplay, a solid narrative component, and mechanics that reward repetition.
It is unknown if other video games will have the opportunity to win the Hugo Awards. In fact, Prix Hugo is currently not reporting on the ongoing creation of this video game category. However, the Hugo Prize has grown significantly in recent years to allow for digital content such as podcasts and video streaming. Therefore, it is not surprising that video games are constantly present.. .
