Horizon Forbidden West shows more enemies and what looks like a giant snake

A new trailer for Horizon Forbidden West from Sony and Guerrilla Games has arrived, featuring some interesting reveals. The new trailer, which looks pretty cool by the way, shows some of the new enemies that players will face in the game. The game premiered at The Game Awards 2021 earlier this year, showing the different environments the main character, Aloy, will be in during the game. The trailer shows a variety of animals and what looks like a giant snake straight out of the Transformers movies, while the narrator explains that some of these animals are friendly and others will attack on sight.

It looks like Aloy will be able to ride at least one of them, if not more, and the animals will also be a central aspect of the game. In his blog post, narrative director Ben McCaw explained that Horizon Forbidden West will feature a bunch of new cars that haven’t been revealed yet.

The animals here are of course based on real world animals, although they look pretty cool in the trailer. You have an armadillo that rolls into a ball and rolls over it, and you also have “Sliding Fang”, a giant snake that can spit acid.

What’s unclear right now is what the gameplay will be like at the end. The trailers for Horizon Forbidden West look great so far, but Sony has also only revealed the PlayStation 5 variant of the game. While it should be coming to the PlayStation 4 as well, we don’t yet know what it will look like without the PlayStation 5 hardware.

It’s also worth noting that Sony previously stated that PS4 owners would not receive a free upgrade to Horizon Forbidden West earlier, but changed that decision after facing backlash from gamers.

In a recent blog post, Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said:

“Last year, we made a commitment to providing free updates to our multi-gen launch games, including Horizon Forbidden West. While the pandemic has pushed Forbidden West out of the launch window we originally envisioned, we will stick to our offer: Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free.

Today, I also want to confirm that in the future, multi-generation PlayStation exclusives (recently released on PS4 and PS5) – both digital and physical* – will offer a $10 digital upgrade option from PS4 to PS5. This will apply to the next God of War game and Gran Turismo 7, as well as any other PS4 and PS5 exclusive titles released by Sony Interactive Entertainment.”
