How to edit PDFs on iOS 16 on the iPhone and iPad

Sharing information while preserving any particular document’s original formatting is easy with the help of PDFs. These are simple to make and may be viewed on practically all current technology. But what if you only have an iPhone or iPad and need to edit a PDF while on the go?

Fortunately, you can edit PDFs using a variety of tools in the Files app on the iPhone and iPad. How to edit PDFs on iPhone and iPad using the Files app

The Files app contains the Markup tool that you may have previously used to annotate your screenshots. But, if you’re unaware of how to use or use the Markup tool in the Files app to modify PDFs, please refer to the procedures listed below.

Sign or annotate a PDF using the Files app

  1. Go to the Files app and open a PDF you want to edit.
  2. Tap the Markup icon.
  3. Select the pen, highlighter, pencil, or crayon tool to annotate the PDF.
  4. Tap on the plus icon located in the bottom right corner.
    Select a PDF, tap the markup icon, tap the + icon in PDF

  5. Choose if you want to add Shapes, Text, or a Signature to the PDF.
    Here, I am choosing Signature.
  6. Drop your signature and tap Done.
    The signature should appear in the PDF doc.
  7. Once again, tap Done at the top right to save your changes.

Delete or add pages to a PDF

The Files app not only lets you edit and sign Documents, but it also makes it very simple to insert new pages and delete old ones. This is how:

  1. Go to the Files app and open a PDF you want to edit.
  2. Tap the page guide on the top left to view all the pages within the PDF.
    If you can’t see the same, just tap anywhere on the PDF document.
  3. Now, select the three-dot icon on a page → Then choose what you want to add to the PDF:
    • Insert Blank Page: Add a blank page that you can annotate.
    • Insert from File: Select and insert an image into the PDF.
    • Scan Pages: Scan and insert a printed document into the PDF.
  4. Or, If you want to remove a page, tap Delete.

Rotate or reorder the pages of a PDF.

In addition to the features mentioned above, the Files app also lets you reorder or rotate the pages of a PDF. This is how:

  1. Go to the Files app and open a PDF you want to edit.
  2. Tap the page guide on the top left to view all the pages within the PDF.
    If you can’t see the same, just tap anywhere on the PDF document.
  3. Tap and hold the page you want to rearrange and drag it to the desired location within the document.
  4. Once rearranged, you can tap the three-dot icon on the page, then tap Rotate Left or Rotate Right to rotate the selected page.

Merge current PDF files on iPhone

As shown below, you may instantly combine your current Documents into one PDF using the Files app. Just be aware that your PDFs will be joined in alphabetical or numerical order, so be sure to rename them before merging.

  1. Open the Files app and locate the folder where the PDFs are saved.
  2. Select the three-dot icon at the top right corner.
  3. Tap Select and choose the PDFs you want to merge.
  4. Now, choose the three-dot icon at the bottom right corner and choose Create PDF.

I’m done now! The chosen documents will be combined into a new PDF and saved in the same folder.
