Resident Evil 2, 3 and 7 games will get Sony PS5 and Xbox Series X/S updates

Capcom has just confirmed that Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 will receive free next-gen updates later this year. This means that players who already own these games on PS4 or Xbox One will be able to upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version at no additional cost.

Update patches for all three games will also be released on PC at no additional cost, along with the next generation console versions. The studio has yet to confirm if players who purchase Resident Evil 7 on their PS4/PS5 through the PS Plus Collection will get access to the next-gen free update.

Resident Evil 2 and 3 are remakes of the classic version and have been incredibly well received, with many praising the attention to detail and technical excellence of the remakes.

While it’s not confirmed when the next-gen updates will arrive, it’s only known that they’ll be available “later this year.”As is the case with most next-gen updates, the games will likely allow players to switch between performance and quality modes.

Performance mode prioritizes frame rate over fidelity and resolution, while Quality mode does the exact opposite. All three Resident Evil games are technically impressive on their own, but the next-gen update may allow Capcom to experiment more with visuals and controls.

Dualsense in PS5 gives developers all sorts of cool ways to experiment with triggers. Perhaps Capcom wants to use all sorts of new tricks with adaptive triggers, adding another level of immersion to games.

Capcom has had a successful track record and has had quite a streak of successful sales since the release of RE7. Since the game’s release, Capcom has been successful with both the remakes and the Resident Evil Village sequel. The future of the series looks incredibly bright, and it will be interesting to see what the studio decides to develop further.
