DALL-E imaging AI now available in beta

OpenAI moves DALL-E to beta. 1 million users will be able to enjoy it.

You no longer need to be part of a very private club to be able to try the DALL-E smart image generator, designed and developed by OpenAI. Indeed, the consortium has just launched a beta that will make DALL-E available to the 1 million users on the waiting list in the coming weeks.

If you are one of the lucky winners, you will receive 50 image credits the first month and 15 each month thereafter. Each credit generates four images based on the original description, or three if you suggest any modification or description option. A pack of 115 $15 credits is also offered in case the free credits aren’t enough.

1 million users will be able to enjoy it

This beta version also expands the use rights to commercial projects. You can print images, for example, on T-shirts or children’s books. However, OpenAI still does not allow images of realistic faces, named content (such as people or shows), and any “explicit”content to be sent to DALL-E. The consortium remains concerned that people could misuse the technology to spread false information, perform deepfakes and other dangerous purposes.

DALL-E has generated a lot of interest due to its ability to generate very good images based on only a very brief textual description. The system does not need all the details. And you can also change certain elements to get your desired final rendering. This is both a demonstration of the potential of AI and a very interesting creative tool. After all, you don’t need any technical or artistic knowledge to create something special.
