Elon Musk wants to quadruple the number of Twitter users by 2028
Elon Musk reveals his goals for Twitter: to quadruple the number of users and increase revenue by five times by 2028.
After Elon Musk’s proposal to buy Twitter, many questions arose. Among them is the question of how service can change. This deal is far from complete, but Elon Musk has already had to share his vision of the company’s future with investors in order to get the necessary funds. The New York Times was able to obtain a copy of the file they provided, which gives us an idea of the company’s vision according to Elon Musk.
Elon Musk reveals his goals on Twitter
First, the American billionaire wants to increase Twitter’s monthly user base from 217 million at the end of 2021 to almost 600 million in 2025 and 931 in 2028. That’s more than quadrupling in just six years. Elon Musk also wants to have 104 million paid subscribers for the service he currently calls “X”. There are no details about this X product, but Elon Musk has hinted prominently at Twitter’s ad-free operation.
The file also contains many details about income goals. The SpaceX CEO is confident Twitter can quintuple its annual revenue to $26.4 billion by 2028, up from $5 billion last year. He also wants to diversify his sources of income. Ads now account for about 90% of Twitter’s revenue. Elon Musk wants to reduce this figure to 45% by 2028.
Therefore, to achieve these goals, Twitter will need more paying users. So the Tesla CEO is targeting 69 million Twitter Blue users in 2025 and 159 million in 2028. – option to undo a tweet. Between that mysterious Product X and Twitter Blue, Elon Musk is betting big on users who opt for paid experiences.
By 2028, four times as many users and five times as many revenues.
Finally, Elon Musk also foresees a move in the payments segment. He wants the company to generate $15 million in payments revenue in 2023. This figure will rise to $1.3 billion in 2028. Twitter currently offers very limited shopping and donation features, which the NYT says have no measurable impact.
However, the NYT does not have details on how Elon Musk plans to achieve these goals, other than that he expects big things from Twitter after the acquisition is completed. A quadrupling in user numbers and a fivefold increase in revenue sounds very ambitious for an already well-established company like Twitter. But one thing is certain, Elon Musk clearly has no intention of spending that $44 billion to maintain the status quo.
