Elon Musk would like to create a city for his Tesla, Boring and SpaceX employees in Texas: a titanic project, a financially attractive offer for employees, but many concerns.

It is reported that Elon Musk is seriously considering the idea of creating a city from underground, in which his employees Tesla, Boring and SpaceX will live. The latter will be located about 60 km from Austin, Texas, and may be called Snailbrook, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper found documents related to the construction of 110 houses near the Boring and SpaceX complexes in Bastrop County. The article explains that last year, Boring employees were asked to apply for housing with rents starting at about $800 a month for two- and three-bedroom homes. Given that the average rent near Bastrop is around $2,200 per month, that would be well below the market supply.

In any case, the employees who will live there will be even more under the heel of Elon Musk. In addition to receiving a salary from him, he will pay him rent. According to the same report, they will also have 30 days to move out if they are laid off. Executives also considered the idea of inviting employees from other Elon Musk companies to live in Snailbrook. Tesla’s Gigafactory in Texas, for example, is only a 30-minute drive from Bastrop.

The plans for this potential city include, among other things, making the house a Montessori school for a maximum of 15 children, as well as a possible incorporation. This would allow Elon Musk to set certain rules for the municipality, which would presumably also have to organize municipal elections.

According to some reports, in recent years, companies in the hands of Elon Musk have seized more than 1,400 hectares of land in the Austin area. His architectural designer, ex-girlfriend Grimes and Ye (aka Kanye West) reportedly discussed the idea of such a city several times last year, but nothing concrete came of it.

At the same time, residents of nearby areas expressed concerns about the impact of such a project on the environment. According to the magazine, Boring dumped up to 530 cubic meters of industrial waste into Colorado daily. Some are also concerned about the impact on the hearths and wells of the drill test.
