Elon Musk’s plans for his own artificial intelligence (AI) company are starting to take shape. The CEO of Twitter said he wants to “create a third option”- a company that will directly compete with OpenAI and Google. In an interview with Fox News, the American multibillionaire explains that he plans to christen this new adventure “TruthGPT”with the goal of creating “an AI that seeks the truth as much as possible, that tries to understand the nature of the universe”and that “hopefully does more good than harm.”

Elon Musk admits that he will start with a certain handicap compared to his competitors as he “starts late”. And as is often the case, it is difficult to understand how serious this project is in his eyes. That being said, his AI ambitions seem quite significant, as he has, for example, filed for a company called X.AI Corp. He also purchased several thousand GPUs and hired DeepMind researchers for a mysterious artificial intelligence project on Twitter. It is impossible to know if the two initiatives are related. Elon Musk is known for transferring his employees from one company to another in this way.

Elon Musk said these motives arose from his concerns about the direction AI would take and the threat it could pose to humanity. He was one of the first investors in OpenAI, which he helped launch in 2015 before distancing himself from the company after it had a disagreement with Sam Altman over its direction. More recently, he has criticized OpenAI for developing a purely commercial company and for working with Microsoft.

While it’s unclear how Elon Musk’s plans could affect Twitter, this hint hints at an upcoming feature for the service. He said Twitter is working on a feature that will allow users to encrypt their direct messages if they choose. This option “may appear later this month, but no later than next month.”

There have been rumors of such encrypted direct messaging for years, and Elon Musk, a big fan of encrypted messaging apps, once said that Twitter should offer encryption like Signal does. “If you’re in a conversation that you think is private, you can just turn on encryption and no one on Twitter will know what you’re talking about,”he explained.
