Instagram will help prevent the posting of photos on third-party sites

Instagram will soon allow to prevent the integration of their publications in order to satisfy more users on a legal level.

If you wish to use any image, photo, or video created by a third party on your own site, you must first obtain permission from the creator of said photo, or at least credit said person for their work. That being said, since some platforms like Instagram offer integration features, it’s easy to find that you’re integrating part of Instagram and not the image itself, which creates a blurry area.

At the same time, it seems that Instagram decided to give the rights holders of such and such content the opportunity to decide whether they agree to embed their content. This new option will allow Instagram users to choose whether they want someone to be able to embed their post on third-party sites. In other words, if they refuse to leave this option, other users will not be able to integrate their content into their sites.

This should satisfy more users from a legal point of view.

We owe this functionality to the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) and the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA). According to Alicia Calzada, NPPA Deputy Legal Counsel: “We have been contacting Instagram for over a year now to try and find a solution to this issue. We are pleased that they have responded to our requests to resolve this issue.”

So far, there have been a number of concerns about posts being legally attacked for embedding images. In particular, this was the case with Mashable, which sued for integrating the image. At the same time, the court ruled that embedding an image from Instagram was not illegal. There was another case of photographer Paul Nicklen who won a lawsuit against another publisher over an onboard video and screenshot where the photographer never agreed.
