iOS 15.4 will allow all apps to use the iPhone 13’s 120Hz display.

iOS 15.4 fixes a fluency issue with third-party apps. The latter will be able to take full advantage of the 120Hz ProMotion screen of the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max.

One interesting feature offered by the high-end Apple iPhone 13 models is a ProMotion display with a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate. However, due to a “weird animation bug, third-party apps got stuck at 60Hz and couldn’t take full advantage of this higher refresh rate, which is a shame as some users have simply chosen to pay more for such a model and take advantage of the screen.

iOS 15.4 fixes smoothness issue for third-party apps

At the time the issue was reported, the Cupertino company said it was due to a bug in Core Animation, an issue that will be fixed in the next update. The good news today is that the problem appears to have been resolved, according to developer Christian Selig, who explains that someone at Apple told them the problem is now history.

The latter will be able to take full advantage of the 120Hz ProMotion screen of the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max.

After all, in iOS 15.4 beta, it turns out that third-party app animations can now take full advantage of the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max’s ProMotion 120Hz screen. This means that after the update is released to the general public, third-party app animations will no longer differ from Apple app animations, it will be just as smooth, giving users a smoother experience.

History doesn’t tell why the Cupertino company took so long to fix this problem, but better late than never. At this point, we still don’t know when iOS 15.4 will be available to everyone, but since the version is currently available in beta, it shouldn’t be too long.
