iOS 16.4 can automatically dim epilepsy-causing flashing lights on video

Your iPhone may be dimming flashing lights on video
According to the release notes for iOS and iPadOS 16.4, software updates add a new toggle to the Motion menu in Accessibility settings. With it, your iPhone can automatically dim videos when it detects flicker or stroboscopic effects.
People suffering from motion sickness and epileptics may experience seizures, headaches, and other symptoms when exposed to flashing lights. That’s why you see a warning about movies and TV shows that contain flashing visuals.
With this feature enabled, your iPhone or iPad will analyze the video you’re watching to dim the blinking lights if necessary.
How to Enable Auto-Dim Blinking Lights in iOS 16.4
The toggle for dimming flashing lights on video can be found in the Motion menu in accessibility settings.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Select “Accessibility”in the root list.
- Select the Motion option under the Vision heading.
- Slide the switch labeled Dim Flashing Lights to the ON position.
“Video content that depicts repeated flashing or strobe lights will be automatically dimmed,”the description reads. This feature is disabled by default.
