iOS 16: two new features that consume battery
iOS 16 adds several new features, some of which can drain your device’s battery. Here’s how to turn them off.
If your iPhone battery is still melting like snow in the sun, it might be time to take action. You may need to charge it differently, with the right cables, or get a power bank worthy of the name. You can also turn on power saving mode all the time or put your iPhone in airplane mode to save what little you have left. If you’re on iOS 16, there are other ways to save that precious battery. Here are two of particular interest.
Remove widgets from lock screen
All lock screen widgets keep your apps running in the background, constantly getting updates like match scores or weather. And who says that apps running in the background say the battery is draining.
If you want to keep your iPhone running on iOS 16, it’s best to avoid widgets on the lock screen (and home screen). The easiest way to do this is to switch to a different profile: press and hold the lock screen and swipe to select a profile that doesn’t have widgets.
However, if you just want to remove widgets from your existing lock screen, press and hold the lock screen, tap Customize, select Lock Screen, tap the widget box and the “-“button on each widget to remove them.
Do not enable keyboard vibration
Surprisingly, the iPhone keyboard has never been able to vibrate every time you type something. A situation that iOS 16 fixed. If you like, keyboard vibration provides a more immersive typing experience. However, as Apple explains, this feature can affect the battery life of the device.
According to Apple’s help page for the keyboard, vibration “may affect your iPhone’s battery life.”More details, unfortunately, no. But if you want the battery to last as long as possible, it’s best to disable this feature.
Fortunately, it is not enabled by default. If you turned it on yourself, go to Settings > Sounds & Feel > Keyboard Responsiveness and turn off Vibrate.
And while they haven’t been rolled out yet, Live Activity and iCloud Shared Photo Library are two features that will also drain your battery.
