iOS 16 will finally allow always-on screen on iPhone

iOS 16 is making headlines ahead of WWDC 2022. Some of the new features are already rolling out.

While the traditional annual WWDC 2022 developer conference opens its doors in a few days, details are starting to surface as to what the Cupertino company might announce. In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman suggests that the Apple brand has a lot to say about the upcoming major update to its iOS 16 mobile operating system, including improvements to the lock screen. Mark Gurman also claims that the next version of the OS will include wallpapers with widget-like capabilities.

In addition, iOS 16 will include support for the always-on screen feature, which was originally reserved exclusively for the iPhone Pro. This option will allow compatible devices to display notifications and other interesting information without having to fully wake up the screen and therefore the device. This feature has been available on many Android smartphones for a long time, and Apple seemed to want to integrate it into its iPhone 13 last year before unfortunately changing its plans.

Some new things are already appearing

So Mark Gurman backtracks on his previous predictions, saying that iOS 16 will also include improvements to the operating system’s management of multitasking and windowing. The journalist cites a recent tweet from developer Steve Troughton-Smith that shows that Apple is working on an option to allow iOS users to resize their app windows. This is a feature that would be especially useful on the iPad.

Mark Gurman explains that he also expects Apple to add new social features to Messages. The man does not give any details about this. Luckily, we won’t have to wait long as WWDC 2022 officially kicks off on June 6th. Apple will then tell us everything, or almost everything, there is to know about this long-awaited iOS 16.
