iOS 17 should make using AirPlay with hotel TVs simple

Hotels may soon be able to use iOS 17’s AirPlay function, which lets you wirelessly beam photos, movies, and music from Apple devices to hotel TVs that support it.

  • On iOS 17, you might be able to use AirPlay in more locations than previously, such as hotels that have TVs that support it.
  • Hotel managers typically restrict security-related technologies like peer-to-peer networking, which AirPlay needs to function.
  • Apple might have a solution that would let visitors to hotels use AirPlay without having to submit a password.

AirPlay should be available on hotel TVs with iOS 17

Mark Gurman remarked in passing in his Power On email for Bloomberg that Apple has been working on SharePlay and AirPlay upgrades. He would only vaguely mention that the business should work with hotels to increase the availability of AirPlay in iOS 17.

As said by Gurman:

In an effort to make it simpler for customers to beam video and audio to equipment they don’t own, it has held negotiations with hotels and other venues that provide TVs and speakers.

Google casting options akin to AirPlay are already integrated in a lot of hotels. If Gurman is correct, iOS 17 will make some hotels AirPlay-compatible. During its annual WWDC keynote, which begins at 10 a.m. PDT/1 p.m. ET, the Cupertino tech giant will unveil iOS 17 and updates to its other operating systems.

Prior to the fall release of new iPhones, iOS 17 will go on general distribution.

Additional iOS 17 information

Gurman alluded to further iOS 17 features that were disclosed by the Twitter user @analyst941, which is no longer active since Apple dismissed their source.

They come with the following benefits:

  • Wallet app “significant modifications”
  • Location services “improvements” that aren’t specific
  • An updated journaling tool that will replace Sherlock diary apps
  • An iPhone with “a stronger social element”
  • Features in Health for “recording your mood and managing impaired vision”

As was already reported, the Health app will be available for the iPad as of iPadOS 17.

Gurman’s email mostly focuses on a new nightstand feature in iOS 17 that, when the iPhone is held horizontally, will offer glanceable morsels of information, like as the weather, news, stocks, etc. In other words, iOS 17 aims to transform Apple’s mobile devices into feigned smart screens.

Concerning AirPlay and SharePlay

Apple devices can broadcast photos, movies, and music using AirPlay, or they can mirror exactly what is on your screen to a nearby Mac, Apple TV, or AirPlay-enabled smart TV. Bluetooth is used by the device-to-device capability to find nearby AirPlay receivers.

You may share your enjoyment of media and apps with others through FaceTime conversations or the Messages app with SharePlay. It arrived during the pandemic, when a large portion of the world relied on remote work and app-based collaboration. Everyone’s media playback is synced, ensuring that everyone on the call can see and hear the same thing.

Moreover, you can talk while listening or viewing. You can even play supported multiplayer games in Game Center while on a FaceTime conversation with friends.
