iPhone 14: finally with two notches in the screen?

The iPhone 14 may have not one, but two notches in the screen, one round, the other more elongated.

With the iPhone 13, Apple introduced a smaller notch on the screen. It was still very noticeable, but more compact than previous versions. That being said, the iPhone 14 should offer notable changes in this regard. This, at least, is what Display Supply Chain Consultants analyst Ross Young is announcing that the iPhone 14 may offer not a notch, but two.

Perforation, or a hole in the screen, has been used by many Android smartphone manufacturers for several years to accurately avoid a notch. So this is nothing new. What’s interesting here, though, is that the Cupertino company will be using two differently shaped punch-holes – one round, the other more elongated – for its iPhone 14. One will allow TrueDepth sensors for face ID and possibly ambient light, the other will be for the front camera.

The end result is quite interesting, as you can see in the render above, which has absolutely nothing official in it. Of course, it’s impossible to know if the iPhone 14 will actually look like this, but this new information contradicts a previous report that suggested the Cupertino-based company could implement an under-screen camera system this year.

Such under-screen camera modules are still more of a dream than a reality today. Many manufacturers would like to be able to sell such technology, but at the moment, if some models are already available, the technology is far from being democratized. Probably because it is a big technical problem. Indeed, capturing light through the screen without changing the final quality is not easy. This requires the implementation of a certain number of tricks and other countermeasures. Not easy.
