iPhone: This trick helps you get rid of ads and other distractions in Safari

Reading text in Safari isn’t always easy due to ads and other distractions. Fortunately, there is a very effective solution.

Reading in Safari, whether it’s an article or a news story, can sometimes be difficult. Not only is the iPhone screen relatively small, but there are also many distractions. Advertisements, banners, autoplay videos and the like are very common. And concentration is then difficult.

Apple introduced Reader Mode in Safari about 10 years ago to eliminate these distractions. Once activated, this reading mode reorganizes the current web page so that you only see text and images, making important content much easier to read. If you regularly read text in the iPhone browser without this special mode, you should start. Here’s how to use it.

Enable Reading Mode in Safari with One Tap

In Safari, open the page you want to read and tap the aA icon – to the left of the search bar at the top of the page – for about a second and Reading Mode will be activated.

If the Reader isn’t compatible with the page you’re reading, nothing will happen other than a little tactile feedback on your finger. This is often the case with the results page of a search engine like Google and home pages with lots of links to articles.

To deactivate the Reader, press and hold the aA icon for a second.

Automatically activate Reader on your favorite sites

Turning on Reader Mode with one tap is quick and easy, but you can do it even faster. You can activate Reader automatically for all compatible pages on a specific site.

To do this, go to the page of the site for which you want to automatically enable Reader in Safari. Typically, click the aA icon in the top left corner, then click Website Settings from the list that appears. You will see several settings: turn on “Automatically use Reader”. From now on, as soon as you enter this site, the reading mode will be activated after loading the page (of course, if it is compatible).

If you want to disable the Reader, you can either do so by pressing aA > Hide Reader (it will reappear if you reload the page), or disable the “Use Reader Automatically”option to disable it permanently.
