iPod: digital music player no longer available
Revolutionizing the music industry in the early 2000s, Apple ended production of the iPod.
Since its introduction over 20 years ago, the iPod has fascinated users around the world who love the ability to take their music with them wherever they go. When the first iPod was released in 2001, it could store 1,000 tracks. Today, there are more than 90 million songs on the Apple Music streaming service. Several iPod models have been released over the years, including the Nano and Shuffle, but the iPod Touch, released in 2007, was the last model to be permanently discontinued. Apple says it will remain available for sale while supplies last.
“Music has always been at the heart of our concern at Apple, and bringing it to hundreds of millions of users, as the iPod did, has had an impact on the music industry and how music is found, listened to, and distributed.”Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said. “Today, the spirit of the iPod lives on. We’ve built incredible music experiences into all of our products, from iPhone and Apple Watch to HomePod mini, not to mention Mac, iPad and Apple TV. Finally, Apple Music delivers industry-leading audio quality with spatial audio support—there’s no better way to enjoy, discover, and enjoy music. ”
