The goal is clear: these courses are to “empower the knowledge community”and break down barriers that can hinder financial education. On the official website, we can read the following: “Bitcoin’s vision is that it has no barrier, but the lack of access to financial education is a barrier. It is still difficult to use in everyday life. In addition, people need devices and data plans.”

Thus, students will not only be able to take the courses taught by Lama Wilson and Naja J. Roberts, two big names in the crypto world, but they will also receive MiFi devices offering them an internet connection as well as an annual data and smartphone subscription if they need it. These courses will run from June 22nd to September 7th, with face-to-face classes available twice a week in the evenings, including dinner. In addition, children aged 5 to 17 will also have the opportunity to learn how to code during the summer.
This initiative, as well as equipment provided to residents, is funded by Jay-Z and Jack Dorsey themselves. It comes with “local support”provided by the Sean Carter Foundation and Block.
And Jay-Z has high hopes for this academy: “Bitcoin Academy, which starts in Marcy, a place that taught me a lot, will hopefully be the first in a long series. The goal is to provide people with the tools to become independent for themselves and for the community around them.”
