Stills from the canceled Star Wars: 1313 Game Surfaces Online with Uncharted-like gameplay

Looks like footage of the canceled Star Wars game has now surfaced, and it looks pretty neat. The footage is taken from LucasArts’ Star Wars 1313, which was even showcased at E3 2012 and was a huge success.

The gameplay showcase was praised for its fantastic art style, animation, presentation, and overall sense of grit, which was still new for Star Wars games at the time. Unfortunately, the game was canceled around 2013 after Disney bought out LucasArts.

A promising title, the game was supposed to star Boba Fett in his early years as he traveled the underworld of Kurskant in the literal underground area of level 1313. The new footage comes from the portfolio of James Zachary, who directed 1313.

Star Wars 1313 looked pretty promising

The gameplay demo above showcases the rich variety of environments and showcases what looks like a Kurskan chase. Curiously, before the chase scene, it seems like the game should have had a semi-open world, or at least a wide linear structure, to flesh out level 1313.

The chase sequence is very reminiscent of something like Uncharted in that it feels very cinematic. While the demo does not represent the full functionality of the game, it is a good representation of what an ideal version of the game could be.

This isn’t the only promising Star Wars project that has been cancelled, as it seems like there are a disproportionate number of Star Wars games that have actually been made versus those that haven’t. Fans may remember that EA dropped the ax on the Visceral Games game written by Amy Hennig of Uncharted fame.

With the resurgence of LucasFilm Games and the expiration of the exclusive deal with EA, it might be time for at least one publisher to go back in the well and look at past games that were canceled and bring them back.
