How to activate the dark mode of Google Maps
Google Maps has been available in dark mode on both Android and iOS for some time now. Here’s how to activate this display mode.
Dark mode is very valuable for several reasons. Today, many sites and applications offer this display mode. Google Maps has taken a while, but the American giant’s mapping service has been showing up in dark mode for interested users lately. Here’s how to use it.
As reported by The Verge, it took Google a long time to roll out this dark mode, which first appeared on the iPhone last September. The Mountain View firm seemed to be content with not informing the public, it had only been reporting this for a few weeks. If you didn’t know, it’s very easy to activate this mode, whether you’re using Android or iOS.
How to enable dark mode on Google Maps for iOS
Enabling dark mode on iPhone is very easy. Launch the app, click on your profile in the top right corner, then on “Settings”and select “Dark Mode”. There are three options available to you here. “On”- turns on dark mode, “Off”- disables it, or “Like the device.”
This last option allows the Google Maps theme to follow the iPhone theme. If you are using the dark world on your iPhone, Google Maps will display in dark mode. If your iPhone is in clean mode, Google Maps will display with a white background.
This option is especially useful if you’ve set iOS to have automatic dark mode, such as tracking sunrise and sunset. So when it’s dark outside, you’re outside in dark mode, and when it’s light outside, you’re outside in bright mode. And when you open Google Maps you will have the same behavior.
How to activate dark mode on Google Maps for Android
Enabling dark mode on Android is just as easy. Open the app, tap your profile, then “Settings”and “Theme”. From there, you’ll have the same three options as on iOS: Enabled, Disabled, and Like Device.
If you’re using Android, you may know that Google Maps has a dark mode as the feature was rolled out a few months ago after a testing phase from September 2020. Since Google develops Google Maps and Android, it makes sense that this feature was available before iOS.
