How to automatically delete one-time codes in Google Messages
The latest version of Google Messages allows you to automatically delete one-time codes after 24 hours. Here’s how.
One-time codes, also known as one-time passwords, are a good way to secure your various online accounts. They force those who want to connect not only to know your nickname and password, but also to send this famous one-time code to a trusted device. If you have ever received such codes, then you know that they can quickly accumulate on your device. Fortunately, Google offers a solution to this problem.
What’s wrong with one-time codes?
OTPs are fantastic, but they are only of interest when they are used. If you frequently log into accounts that require OTP, you often receive these messages, use codes and… forget them on your smartphone. And there is nothing more annoying than a sea of useless codes than having to delete those useless codes manually, one by one, every time you log in.
How to remove one-time codes in Google Messages
Google has released an update for its Google Messages app. Perhaps the biggest new feature is the introduction of conversation categories, which use artificial intelligence to sort your messages automatically. These groups currently include “Everyone”- all your chats, “Personal”- messages from friends and family – and “Work”- messages from your work and more formal contacts.
That being said, there is also a well-hidden new setting. If you go to Organize Messages, you will see a new option: Automatically delete one-time passwords after 24 hours. Just activate this option and one-time codes will be automatically deleted after 24 hours.
24 hours is more than enough. In a two-factor authentication system, they are only valid for a few minutes. If you do not enter it in time, it will expire and you must request it again. Thus, 24 hours after receiving it, the code will be deleted automatically to avoid overload on your phone.
