How to get the best quality from a video streaming service
Poor streaming quality, regardless of device, is often a sign that your internet speed is too slow. To increase it, there are several ways to follow. They are here.
Does your favorite streaming service often stop during playback? Is the episode taking too long to load? Is the picture quality so bad that you don’t know who’s on the screen? These problems are quite common and persist due to your internet connection. There are a few small things you can do, most of which cost little or nothing, to get the best experience with your video streaming service. And the best part is that these tips work no matter what playback device you’re using.
Increase bitrate for better quality
This is the most obvious and often the least easy way to implement. 4K streaming requires at least 15Mbps, but you’ll need a lot more to really be quiet. Fiber allows these speeds to be achieved in most cases. Otherwise, you’ll have to settle for 1080p, which is perfectly acceptable even on a big screen.
If you can, if your family allows it, if the budget allows, this is the easiest option. With a higher bitrate, streaming becomes much more enjoyable. Just like online games, video calls and more.
Update your WiFi
The Wi-Fi router is an extremely important part of your home. Investing in the latest model allows you to increase speed and reliability. There is something for all budgets. Depending on the size of your home and its layout, you may also want to invest in a mesh network to get maximum coverage.
Go Wired
While Wi-Fi is very practical, most of the time it is much slower than the good old wired connection. Ethernet offers faster speeds, but running cables into its enclosure is not always easy and often difficult to do. But the game is worth the candle.
Before you begin, make sure your devices have an Ethernet port. This is the case with most modern TVs and TV boxes. Consoles are also equipped with it. You shouldn’t have any nasty surprises about this, but it’s best to be sure.
Move your router
Changing the location of your router can have a huge impact. If it is against a wall, close to the ground, indoors, or elsewhere, there is a good chance that the signal, and by extension your power and your speed, will be significantly reduced.
Similarly, if you want to receive Wi-Fi, for example, in a small enclosed space. Ideally, your playback device has a direct, unobstructed view of the router. Obviously, this is not always possible, try.
You can also invest in a Wi-Fi repeater that will boost the signal from your wired or Wi-Fi access to help you get the right speed on a device that is far away or very badly located in relation to your router.
Limit the number of people on a Wi-Fi network
Your internet connection is like a water pipe. There is a fixed rate. If you will be pulled by several people, you will be little by little. And everyone will have problems. You determine the Wi-Fi priority yourself.
For example, some devices may be wired. You can also upload your movies and episodes to watch them freely whenever you want.
Check your internet connection
A tool like Netflix’s Speedtest or Fast.com can give you an idea of your connection. If you are using the Android or iOS version, be sure to place your smartphone near the streaming device for the most accurate results. With every change made to your accommodation, repeat the test.
Many streaming problems can be solved through these different points. The key here is to give your streaming device the highest possible bitrate, regardless of the means.
