How to Use and Customize Share Sheet on iPhone in iOS 16
iOS 16 provides multiple ways to share photos, files, and more across a wide range of apps. According to your actions, your general sheet is automatically updated. On the other hand, to make sharing easier, you can set it up on your iPhone. So let me show you how you can use and customize Share Sheet on your iPhone and learn more about the three menu items.
The Share Sheet iPhone extension lets you share anything from your iPhone. It has a three-part sharing section for taking actions on the item of your choice and sharing content with other devices and apps. You can open a shared sheet in several ways. You often click the Share button or choose Share from the context menu.
- Share button. It looks like a box with an arrow. You can find it in the toolbar of apps like Photos and Safari. When you click on the button, a shared sheet will open to share the selected material.
- Context Menu: Long press on any image, video or file to open the context menu. The horizontal context menu will display the Share option if you select text on a Safari web page. In addition, you will get a vertical context menu if you tap and hold on an image.
- Sharing in Third Party Apps: The Share button can be hidden behind the More button in third party apps such as Instagram and Reddit. Other apps like YouTube and Tumblr have share buttons (forward arrow). By clicking on it, just turn on the “Share sheet”menu with fewer options.
While you can access the Share Sheet in most apps, some still only allow you to share within their own ecosystem. For example, the Share option on Facebook allows you to share a post via Messenger or your Facebook Page.
As mentioned earlier, the general sheet consists of three different sections. Let’s discuss this in detail.
- recent contacts. The first section shows your recent contacts and the apps you’ve interacted with. If you contact the same person using two different apps, they may appear twice in this list. Note that the item will be posted to that contact’s chat window.
- Share with Other Apps or AirDrop: The following section combines sharing options for your iPhone’s built-in and third-party apps. Depending on the application, each will have its own set of actions for sharing. AirDrop is the first sharing option. This allows data to be exchanged between Apple devices only. Here’s our guide on how to use AirDrop to share items.
- Other Exchange Actions: A list of actions you can perform is shown in the third section of the exchange sheet. For example, options are available to cross-post and share a link to the active Reddit chat topic.
However, this process does not always have to include sharing. The list varies depending on the program being used and the type of file selected. For example, in addition to sharing photos, the Share Sheet of the Photos app also allows you to copy, play, and set any image as your iPhone’s wallpaper. In Safari, a website can be bookmarked or added to the favorites list.
You can set up Share Sheet on iPhone or iPad for a more unique experience. Let me show you how to add apps to Share Sheet on iPhone, remove the ones you don’t use and reorder.
- Select the Share icon in any app.
- Swipe left on app icons to close them and tap More.
- Select “Edit”in the top right corner.

Click the red minus sign (-) button to the left of the app you want to remove from your favorites list. Then click Remove. Thus, the application will again appear in the list of suggestions. Note. You cannot remove AirDrop.

How to Edit the Shared Sheet Action List on iPhone
Below the app share bar, you can see a list of several actions such as Copy Photos or Save to Files. They also appear depending on how you use your phone. The action list has three sections for editing: Favorites, Photos, and More Actions.
- Launch Photos and select any image.
- Tap Share.
- Scroll down and select Edit Actions.
- Adding actions to Favorites. Tap the green plus sign (+) next to any available actions.
- Rearrange your favorite activities: Press and hold the three-line icon on the left and move the activity up or down. You can only change the order of actions in the Favorites list.
- Remove actions from favorites. Click the red button with a minus sign (-) and click Remove.
- Disable an action from the shared sheet: If you don’t want any action to appear on the shared sheet, simply disable it.
4. Click Finish to save your changes.
