How to fix connection issues with Google Pixel 6
The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones are very sophisticated devices, but not without flaws. The error makes the connection unstable. Here’s how to fix it.
The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones are not without their strengths, but they also have their own problems. This is especially annoying every day, as it slows down the fingerprint sensor significantly. The other one can be very annoying and more and more users are complaining about it. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro sometimes have great difficulty connecting to the cellular network.
These signal problems have been brought to the attention of many frustrated users, particularly on Reddit. For some people, the phone loses connection, but after a few minutes it becomes stable. Others need to take more complex steps to restore cellular coverage. According to 9to5Google, some have even noticed the “No SIM card” warning, while others, having a SIM card, cannot connect at all. There were hundreds of answers on this talk page on the Google help site. In other words, the fears are very real.
A new phone might not help
Some users have managed to fix this issue by purchasing a new Pixel 6 or 6 Pro from Google. While it is indeed possible to contact Google and see if a replacement is possible, the procedure may cause you more anxiety than it solves. If the problem is really only related to some faulty devices, a replacement may be the solution. However, for several reasons this may not be the case. Even the author of the first post on the help page above explains that the problem still existed after the replacement.
According to Android Police, the problem could be much more widespread. It will touch the modem used by Google for their Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The Exynos 5123b modem in the Pixel 6 is notoriously less powerful and less reliable than the Qualcomm X60 modem used by Samsung in its Galaxy S21 despite Samsung owning Exynos.
The issue could also be related to Android 12.
However, the Pixel 6 modem might not be the only culprit. While most of the reviews are from Pixel 6 owners, other Pixel smartphone users are experiencing similar connectivity issues with their devices. The Pixel 4, 4a, and others don’t have the same modem as the Pixel 6. Another common denominator among them is Android 12.
If the issue is related to Android 12, that’s good news. Once Google discovers the problem, a corrective update may be released, or it may even be a server-side issue. In any case, it would be easier if only software is involved.
Either way, replacing your current Pixel may not fix the issue if one of the above is true. Within an hour, it is better to choose a less drastic approach.
How to Fix Lost Connection Issue on Pixel 6
Since the issue was discovered relatively recently, we’ll have to wait for Google’s official response to find out more. Until then, users will have to use workarounds to fix the issue.
Update your carrier services
The help forum post author explains that his problem was resolved after the Operator Services update. Check the Play Store for updates to see if you have updates for Operator Services. This may fix the issue.
Reboot your device
Some users managed to fix the issue with a simple restart. No guarantees, of course, but it might work.
Disable “adaptive connectivity”
Adaptive Connectivity is a Google feature that aims to preserve phone autonomy by automatically switching from 5G to 4G when the system thinks you’re not interested in using higher speeds. However, this feature can play a role in the Pixel 6’s connectivity issue. Disabling this feature may cause you to lose a few percent of your battery, but you’ll get a more stable connection.
Get a new SIM card
Some users have found a solution by replacing the SIM card with their carrier. If other solutions don’t work for you, it might be worth applying for a new SIM card.
