Having trouble with names is nothing new. Anyone, including our beloved Siri, can experience this. It’s one of the most trusted virtual assistants, and I understand how frustrating it can be when Siri mispronounces names. Today I will explain how to teach Siri how to pronounce names correctly.

Get Siri to Pronounce a Contact’s Name Correctly on iPhone

  1. Launch the Contacts app on your iPhone.
  2. Find and click on the name.
  3. Tap Edit.
  4. Scroll to add a field.
  5. Select Phonetic name, Phonetic middle name and Phonetic name (depending on your needs).
  6. Enter the phonetic spelling of the contact.
  7. Click Done.

Note. It may take a while for Siri to figure out the phonetic name because Siri pronounces them inconsistently.

Use the Siri Command to Pronounce Names Correctly

  1. Say “Hey Siri”to activate the command.
  2. Say the contact’s name.
  3. After Siri says the name, say that you don’t pronounce (name) correctly.
  4. Siri will respond with the message below.
  5. Tap Open the Contacts app.
  6. Tap Edit.
  7. Scroll to add a field.
  8. Select First name pronunciation, Middle name pronunciation, and Last name pronunciation (depending on your needs).
  9. Enter pronunciation options → tap Done.

Also, if you want to correct Siri’s pronunciation of your name, all you have to do is say “Hey Siri”→ ask “Who am I”and follow steps 4-8 above.
